About

World Vision is a faith-based global Christian humanitarian charity headquartered in Federal Way, Washington. Since 1950, World Vision has worked with children, families, and communities in the world's hardest places — through famine, disaster, and genocide — to help people lift themselves out of poverty. World Vision US is part of an international World Vision partnership that spans nearly 100 countries.

Mission

World Vision is an international partnership of Christians whose mission is to follow Jesus Christ in working with the poor and oppressed to promote human transformation, seek justice, and bear witness to the good news of the kingdom of God. The organization serves every child it can, of any faith or none.

What they do

  • Child sponsorship connecting donors with individual children and their communities.
  • Lifesaving emergency programs providing food, water, and medicine around the world — emergency aid in crises, critical medical care to stop deadly diseases, and clean water in drought.
  • Long-term community development: local staff (98 percent of staff are hired locally) are trained to help children and families address the roots of poverty, with the goal of communities standing on their own after World Vision leaves.
  • Responses to long-standing crises and injustices that call for sustainable, long-term solutions.

History

World Vision has served children and families for 75 years. Its financial accountability page states that the organization has been investing in lasting change since 1950.

Scale and impact

  • From 2015 to 2022, World Vision reports that 70 million people were reached with the resources and tools to lift themselves out of poverty.
  • Its stated goal is that by 2030, 300 million people in poverty will be equipped with the tools to change their lives.
  • The international World Vision partnership spans nearly 100 countries.

Financials

  • In 2024, 87 percent of World Vision's total operating expenses went to programs benefiting children, families, and communities in need, with 9 percent for fundraising and 4 percent for management, per the organization's website.
  • According to IRS filings summarized by ProPublica Nonprofit Explorer, World Vision reported revenue of 1,423,305,144 dollars, expenses of 1,423,738,245 dollars, and total assets of 515,283,132 dollars for the fiscal year ending September 2025.
  • World Vision is reviewed and held accountable by Charity Navigator, the Better Business Bureau, the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability, Candid, and CharityWatch.
