About

Save the Redwoods League is an independent nonprofit working across California's redwood range to revitalize some of the most powerful forests on the planet. Founded in 1918 and headquartered in San Francisco, the League protects and restores the coast redwood and giant sequoia forests of California and connects people to these landscapes through a network of redwood parks.

Mission

Guided by science and partnerships, Save the Redwoods League is leading a movement to renew and restore the original coast redwood and giant sequoia forests. Its work supports thriving wildlife, clean air and water, sustainable local economies, and enduring places where everyone can experience something extraordinary. The League's vision is of vibrant redwood forests of the scale and grandeur that once graced the California coast and the Sierra Nevada — protected forever, restored to grow old again, and connected to all people through a network of magnificent parks and protected areas.

What they do

  • Land protection: acquiring and safeguarding redwood forestland across California's redwood range
  • Forest restoration: helping logged and degraded redwood forests recover and grow old again
  • Parks and community engagement: creating and expanding redwood parks and connecting people to the forests
  • Science and discovery: funding and conducting research that guides redwood conservation

The League reports that it has protected more than 220,000 acres of redwood forests, restored 37,000 acres, and helped create or expand 76 redwood parks.
