About
CodePath is a San Francisco-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that delivers industry-vetted computer science courses and career support to college students, with a focus on first-generation and low-income learners. Founded in 2017, the organization works to close gaps between what universities teach and what technology employers need, describing its goal as reprogramming higher education to create the first AI-native generation of engineers, CTOs, and founders. Its courses are taught by engineers from top technology companies and are offered to students at no cost to their institutions.
Mission
CodePath's stated aim is to ensure that students from all backgrounds — especially those who are first-generation or low-income — can launch careers in technology. The founders, who previously ran a technical training company serving major tech firms, started the nonprofit after concluding that talent was everywhere but opportunity was not.
What they do
- Applied AI Engineering pathway (courses AI110, AI201, AI301) aimed at building AI-native engineers
- Technical interview preparation courses
- Web development courses from introductory through advanced levels
- Cybersecurity courses
- Mobile development courses for iOS and Android
- Claude Corps, a 12-month paid fellowship for 1,000 early-career AI builders
- An AI-native computer science curriculum embedded into degree programs at partner institutions at no institutional cost
- AI enablement and talent solutions for companies
History
CodePath was founded in 2017 as a nonprofit by entrepreneurs Michael Ellison, Nathan Esquenazi, and Tim Lee, who had previously operated CodePath.com, a technical training company for major technology firms. The nonprofit shifted that expertise toward college students who lacked access to industry-relevant training.
